Spring 1907: English attorney Jonathan Perris is new to San Francisco and has just concluded his first big case, the murder trial of Dr. Tom Justice (detailed in the novel The Price of Compassion, Book Four of “The Golden City” series). Having hired his two law clerks as associates, Perris is ready to take on new clients. Enter Minerva Jo Letterman, a beautiful young woman whose husband is suing her for divorce, claiming adultery. She insists she’s innocent, with a sob story that seems preposterous in light of the evidence against her. Lead attorney Cordelia Hammersmith takes on the challenge, but soon has second thoughts. Is the scrumptious Mrs. Letterman guilty or innocent – you decide.
