The Baltic States: A Primer in Three Parts

September 12, 2019

I just returned from a few weeks touring the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.  I knew nothing about them except that they were once part of the U.S.S.R. What a delightful surprise they turned out to be! Each country has its own culture, history, beauty and, well, “quirks” (at least to an outsider like me). August 17, 2019

Some initial facts: It’s one of two types of minerals, nephrite and jadeite, and comes in many colors, not just green. It’s also extremely durable and hard to break, which made it an obvious choice for weapons, ... VIEW POST

How to Make Your Most Difficult Decisions

August 27, 2018

We’re confronted with choices every day: “What should I have for breakfast?” “Do I really want to go to exercises class?” Should I have that second brownie now or save it for later?” As much as we might groan about them, those kinds of decisions are relatively easy to make because there’s not too much at stake if we opt for one over the other. It’s the really tough ones—the life-changing ones—that lie at the heart of my just-released novel, The Price of Compassion. Tom Justice, the ... VIEW POST
