I’m a newbie blogger—both as reader and writer. I’ve resisted until now because I’m afraid I might get hooked and start neglecting all the other stuff I have to do. I’m bad enough with just emails! But as a soon-to-be-published author, I know it’s important to let your readers know you’re out there. Yes, my writing should speak for itself (and it does), but still, if you know a little bit about me, then you might be more inclined to give my books a try. I hope so, anyway.
So, entering the blogosphere as a reader, it occurs to me that at first it’s like walking into this huge party where everybody looks like they already know each other and you don’t know anybody. At all. (Ever shown up at a party like that? It’s daunting, to say the least). So as a new reader, it’s tempting to just stand in the corner and observe—which, by the way, is perfectly fine.
But if you want more out of the experience, turns out it’s a lot easier than I thought. Because nobody’s asking who the heck you are or where your invitation is or if you’re cool enough to be there. They’re not checking out what you’re wearing or who you walked in with. And they’re not annoyed if you want to join this group or that group, even if they don’t know anything about you. In the world of blogs, all anybody wants is for you to be a respectful part of the conversation. They want you to be there.
Oh, and here’s the best part: you don’t even have to do it on the bloggers’ schedule—you can do it on your own time, whenever it suits you … in your pajamas if you want to. How cool is that?!
So, welcome to my own p.j. party. Sure, it may start out small, but over time I think we’ll find a good group of online friends with lots to talk about—like how difficult love is sometimes (not just romantic love, but all kinds); the stuff in life that bugs us and the stuff that makes us smile … the jarring twists and turns of this Tilt-a-Whirl called being human that we can all relate to. Like you, I’m filled with lots of ideas and (to hear my husband tell it) plenty of opinions. Some of what goes through my head finds its way into my books, and we can talk about it all here. Stay tuned!
